Your paystub is an earnings statement that includes details on the gross wages you earned for the pay period, the federal and state taxes withheld, MIT Benefits-related deductions, and your net pay. Alternate terms for paystub include pay slip, pay advice, wage slip, or salary statement.

MIT defaults all employees (except service staff) and students to paperless online paystubs. Service staff employees receive paper paystubs via USPS or campus mail.

Note there are different ways to access your paystub online, depending on if you have a Social Security Number (SSN). See specifics below.

View your paystub online through Atlas

If you are a current employee with a Social Security Number (SSN) on file with MIT, you will view your paystub on Atlas. When you log in, click on About Me in the top horizontal menu. You will find the option for Paystubs in the left-hand menu under Money Matters.

On the Paystubs page, choose Current Paystub to access your most recent paystub.

Note: As of August 13, 2021 paystubs are generated by Automatic Data Processing (ADP). With single sign-on, your credentials are passed to ADP where you can view, download, or print your paystub.

The ADP paystub format is different than the MIT-generated one but provides the same information on pay, tax withholding, and deductions.

On the Paystubs page, you can choose Paystub Archive to see the MIT-generated paystubs which will continue to display two years of paystub history.

You can elect to receive an email from MIT notifying you that your paystub is available for viewing on Atlas. The email notification is sent the day before payday. Go to Atlas > About Me > Settings and Authorizations and select option Current payroll payment is available for review in Atlas.

View your paystub on the ADP Mobile Solutions app

The myADP Mobile Solutions app gives you a second way to access your MIT paystub, in addition to using the Atlas paystubs page.

Update how you receive your paystub

MIT strongly encourages you to use online resources to access your paystubs. However, if you have limited access to a computer with a secure internet connection, or if you prefer to receive paper paystubs, email VPF HR/Payroll, and request paper paystubs.

If you are currently receiving paper paystubs and would like to change to paperless, send an email to VPF HR/Payroll to request this change.

Review your net pay

The net pay on your paystub is calculated as follows:

  • Gross—your total pay for the pay period before any taxes or deductions are withheld
  • Taxes—the taxes withheld each pay period toward Social Security, Medicare, federal income tax, and Massachusetts (or other states) income tax
  • Deductions—amounts that are deducted each pay period for MIT Benefits including health insurance, dental and vision coverage, your contributions to your Health Savings Account (HSA) and your 401(k) plan, parking fees, your portion of the MBTA Commuter Rail pass, supplemental life insurance, and other benefits-related deductions

Federal and state income taxes are based on your FED Earnings and MA Earnings, which are calculated by subtracting your pre-tax deductions from your gross pay.

Contact VPF HR/Payroll if you have questions.
